Scion's tC Coupe could see additional variants spun off from its platform, including a 5-door variant. The tC, which shares its platform with the Lexus HS250h and European-market Toyota Avensis, is available in sedan, wagon and hatchback variants throughout the world.

"This platform has plenty of flexibility to do more with," Jack Hollis, Scion vice president-Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc., told Ward's Auto. Hollis didn't give detailed plans about a new tC variant but stated that a five-door tC is "possible". Such a model would not be a stretch, as Toyota's European-market Avensis sedan is already available in a five-door liftback, and would be a more traditional but quirky offering for Scion.
At the recent launch of the second-generation 2011 tC, Scion reps let slip that the youth-brand's next model, the iQ, will hit dealerships in March.

Touted as the smallest four-seater in the world. At just 120-inches long it is roughly one-foot longer than the Smart fortwo. Saying it's a 4-seater is a bit of a stretch, however, and Scion does qualify that it's more of a 3+1, with the "1" being a child.

Referred to by Scion as a "premium micro sub compact" the iQ is powered by a 1.3-liter 4-cylinder and gets a CVT transmission. No performance or fuel economy numbers are available, but Scion says to expect fuel economy in the high-30 mpg range.

Safety features will also be big on this small car with standard abs, vehicle stability control traction control and 10 airbags – including a world's first rear window curtain airbag.

Qnd keeping with Scion's youth-oriented approach with a six-speaker audio system, USB and auxiliary ports, as well as steering wheel mounted controls.
As early leaked reports indicated, Toyota is being exonerated after Congress pushed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to reveal the preliminary findings of its investigation into the cases of "unintended acceleration" of Toyota vehicles.

A Department of Transportation investigation of the black box recorders in 58 Toyota vehicles involved in "unintended acceleration" crashes has revealed that in 35 of those cases the brakes were never engaged. In nine other cases the brakes were only applied immediately before impact. In five additional cases no data was recorded, while in five more it was shown that the brakes were applied early on. One incident showed that both the accelerator and brake were pressed.

Toyota did place a recall for a faulty mechanical brake pedal and for millions of vehicles with what could be improperly installed floor mats – the later which is believed to be a cause of the crash in at least one of the 58 vehicles investigated by NHTSA.

"The limited research completed so far has not led to identification of safety defects other than sticking gas pedals or pedal entrapment," reads the report, clearly indicating that faulty vehicle electronics are not to blame.

Results of the NHTSA investigation are not final and the government agency warns that it may still take months to look over all the vehicles in question.
