Default Exhaust smell going up hills

I have a 2009 Scion Xd with 103,000 miles. I commute everyday and drive up a grade. I've noticed a smell of old exhaust when I go up this hill. I usually push around 60 mph. I've read other sites and it seems it could be the catalytic converter. Any ideas of what it could be and should I be concerned?

I realize this thread is over a year old. I only just join the forum.

Hope you are still alive - if you smelled exhaust in the cabin, there may be an exhaust leak in the engine compartment. Most likely at the header. That needs to be fixed ASAP as you are breathing CO (carbon monoxide) which could kill you.
